Ghent Altarpiece
The Ghent Altarpiece is twelve renaissance paintings put into one painting. The Altarpiece was made by Hubert van Eyck but he was unfortunately he died before he could finish the famous art work. His brother Jan van Eyck finished it over Hubert’s death bed. Hubert died September 18, 1426. The Altarpiece was dedicated on May 6, 1432, in the Church of Saint John, Ghent (it is also known as Cathedral of Saint Bavo), The Art was installed over the altar in a chantry chapel founded by the wealthy patrician Joos Vijd and his wife Elizabeth Borluut. Before WWII started, the Altarpiece was moved to a fort in France.
