Pain Path

Megan, Nathanael, and I walked outside one snowy day at Megan's farm getting ready to play the Shawnee Indians in our little tree club house fighting the British. We ran to the top of the hill in the field where the miniature horses, Pepper and her father Elvis lived. Tow roots from the near by trees made stairs to the entrance of the club house we were building up in the middle of a clump of trees. We liked to eat the cold, crunchy snow from the branches.

There were two rows of trees running parallel to each other all the way from the club house to the bottom of the hill. I announced that I was going to toboggan through the trees. Megan loudly asked me if I was nuts. I didn't mind because I still thought it would be fun. I was the first one to toboggan through the trees. I laid the toboggan down on the hill an lay on my stomach head first. With a push-start, I began sliding more to the side than I wanted to be. I smashed hard on the trees to my right! I crashed even harder on the tree to my left! I yelled with pain and then with delight as I hit the perilous barbed wire fence and was scratched by one of the barbs under my right eyebrow. "OOOOWWWWW!! That was Fun!!!" Nathanael was already coming down the hill and almost ran right into me but I crawled out of the way just in time. Megan was at the top of the hill preparing to come down too.

Despite the pain, I grabbed the toboggan for another ride because it was amazingly fun! Right after starting the second time going head first, I lost control of the toboggan. I became afraid and tried to steer myself back on course, but it was too late. I yelled with fear as I smashed in to that threatening barbed wire fence again and was scratched on my right cheek.

We laughed and had toboggan races. sometimes we ran into pepper and Elvis because their curiosity brought them into our paths. they trotted away when we hit them. When we finally stopped to rest from playing I listened and I heard chirping birds. When I sniffed the air I could smell the moist fields when looked around the snow-covered trees and fields looked like a beautiful winter wonderland. It seemed hared to imagine that such a beautiful place could hold such a dangerous place as Pain Path.

The First prosperous Settlement In The New World

In 1604, Samuel de Champlain and his crew sailed to the New World. When they found St. Croix Island, they presumed it would be a safe place to build a settlement. Unfortunately, the first settlement was built too quickly and was unsterdy. The winter was harsh. The whistling wind was heard through the frost-covered windowpanes which were covered in frost. Almost half the men died that winter. The smell of death was in the air. When the crisp winter was gone and spring had come, hose who survived went on to new land and built a new weatherproof settlement. Champlain decided the settlers should eat off the land. Gardens were made and meat was hunted. They made banquets in warm building with the best gravy covered meat and steamed corn, carrots, and potatoes. Port Royal was the first prosperous settlement in the New Wold.
